Dr. Jan Spencer comes to lead our Journey Through the Bible class, having served in pastoral ministry along with his wife, Yolanda, since the mid-1970’s. They have four grown children (including our very own Pastor Rachel) and 14 grandchildren. During their 40 years in the desert of the Antelope Valley, they planted two churches, partnered in the planting of three other churches, hosted a weekly radio program for five years, served as a divisional overseer to numerous churches for 30 years, and most recently, provided interim leadership for a church in California City whose pastor succumbed to COVID-related health problems. Since 2017, Jan has directed our denominational district’s institute—Western Ministry Institute (WMI)—where scores of people—including several from The Sanctuary—have engaged ministry-related preparation involving biblical, theological, and ministry-relevant study. Jan’s full-time work these days is as a program chair for three programs at a major online university in West Virginia. He also teaches as an adjunct at Life Pacific University and The King’s University. His calling in the ministry is to inspire God’s people to embrace the vision and mission of Jesus Christ and to equip them to carry it out. Along the way, having the privilege and opportunity to contribute to the spiritual growth of our congregation here at The Sanctuary is a special opportunity he embraces.
